Exhibition Visit at Somerset House

As part of our cultural series here at The Merit Club, we love taking you ladies to new and exciting exhibitions, performances, and more. There’s an abundance of things to see.

This time, we will be visiting SOIL: The World at Our Feet, a landmark exhibition at Somerset House.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Soil is more than dirt. Soil is a secret world at our feet, an ecosystem as diverse in life as our night sky is full of stars. Our relationship with soil is our connection to Earth itself. Without soil, there is no us.

This exhibition brings together a range of stories and responses to soil from a group of global artists, writers, musicians and scientists. Combining sensory artworks, historical objects, scientific artefacts and documentary evidence, the exhibition sets out to inspire and educate visitors about the power and the fragility of soil, its fundamental role in human civilisation and its remarkable potential to heal our planet.

ABOUT THE LAND GARDENERS

This International Women’s Day, we honour four women transforming gardening, sustainability, and curation.

Henrietta Courtauld and Bridget Elworthy, founders of The Land Gardeners, lead the way in regenerative gardening and soil health, blending beauty with sustainability.

May Rosenthal Sloan, curator and writer, explores the connections between art, design, and nature, shaping thought-provoking narratives.

Claire Catterall, Senior Curator at Somerset House, brings bold, innovative exhibitions to life, challenging how we experience art and culture.

Together, they have co-curated SOIL, an exhibition that highlights the importance of soil health, sustainability, and our relationship with the natural world.

Their work is rooted in creativity, sustainability, and transformation, inspiring us all.
